My Goals

Affordable Housing

  • Increase housing availability and stabilize prices without cutting down dense forests.
  • Incentivize local landlords to accept citizens on Section 8 housing assistance through tax credits, easing the housing shortage for the bottom income quartile.
  • Double the mandatory green space in new housing developments from 10% to 20%.
  • Be responsive to the community by protecting single-family, low-density zoning districts while focusing on high- and mid-density housing near the city center.

Prosperity

  • Attract and sustain a healthy mix of locally owned and franchised small- and medium-sized businesses, particularly those that provide family entertainment, industry, activity, and relaxation options.
  • Create incentives to bring back businesses destroyed by COVID.
  • Prioritize homeownership to support school funding.
  • Support Thurston County’s increased airport traffic plan to bring business and connectivity to the town.
  • Incentivize major investors to revitalize abandoned structures into housing and commerce, with the Olympia Brewery as the first target.

Safety

  • Connect existing sidewalks, particularly in high-traffic areas.
  • Increase police staffing from 75% to 90%.
  • Oppose the installation of the FLOCK automated license plate scanning system—trust in police officers, not a police state.
  • Develop a plan to add a third fire station in southern Tumwater and strengthen the city’s Medic One partnership with the county.

Equality

  • Strengthen parallel planning and governance with the Nisqually Tribe and advocate for hosting the annual Squalli powwow.
  • Partner with local NGOs and faith-based institutions to improve homeless care services.
  • Establish or expand food bank services in partnership with local NGOs and faith-based organizations.

Small-Town Community

  • Homeownership + locally owned businesses + community activity + nature = a strong small-town identity.
  • Develop municipal sports leagues, city-wide marathons, and other community activities.
  • Support local festivals, including the Duck Dash and Independence Day fireworks.
  • Leverage the city’s partnership with JBLM for festivals and ecological cleanup projects.
  • Advocate at the state level to ensure Olympia fulfills its promise of “abundant” funding for schools.
  • Strengthen unions to maintain vital school, fire, and police services while fostering productive relationships between unions and management.

Environment

  • Add legal protections for the Davis-Meeker tree and other old-growth sites.
  • Recognize trees and water features as valuable assets for land development, not obstacles; create ordinances and open dialogues that reflect this.
  • Advocate for the state government to continue the light rail extension from DuPont to Tumwater (via Lacey and Olympia) to reduce I-5 pollution and traffic. Support the Port of Olympia’s airport expansion plan for similar reasons.
  • Create tax incentives for private tree-trimming services to make it more affordable for landowners to preserve trees on their property.
